The Journal Square Community Association (JSQCA) offers a diverse range of subject-specific committees directed by and available to members interested in engaging in community endeavors. These committees grant access to special meetings, programs, and supplementary materials designed to align with the unique objectives of each committee. Clean

Aims to ensure that sidewalks, streets, and properties within our boundaries are clean, litter-free, and properly maintained through education and enforcement.

Chair: Travis Miscia

Green

Focused on parks, including the Bergen Arches, Courthouse Park, and Pavonia/Marion Park, and environmental sustainability. It works closely with the city’s Office of Sustainability and environmental groups.

Transportation

Advocates for the safety and needs of pedestrians, cyclists, users of mass transportation, and drivers of Journal Square. With a focus on traffic safety, walkability, and public transit access, the Transportation Committee works closely with the city’s offices of transportation planning and traffic engineering as well as the multitude of transportation agencies serving the community.

Construction and Planning

Works closely with the city government and developers to ensure that any new construction projects in the neighborhood are designed to improve the public benefit.

Safety

Serves as a liaison between the residents and the police, as well as pushing projects to increase street safety.

Chair: Renee Tirella Cassidy and Mary Miraglia

History

Seeks to engage, educate, and inspire residents about the rich history of Journal Square through speaking series and walking tours. It is the lead organizer for the annual Bergen Square Day.

Communications and Outreach

The Journal Square Community Association fosters connections through communication, prioritizing diversity in membership for representation and engagement.
